Moganshan tickets in 2026: what you pay, what you don't, and why every source disagrees

Nobody can show you an official price for Moganshan tickets. Not a travel writer, not a booking platform, not this site. The published figures run from RMB 50 to RMB 130, and on 19 September 2026 every official channel that should settle it refused to load.

Moganshan (莫干山) is a mountain in Deqing County (德清县), Huzhou (湖州), Zhejiang Province (浙江省), roughly 60 km north of Hangzhou and 200 to 240 km from Shanghai. Moganshan Road in Shanghai, the M50 art district in Putuo, is a different place, sells no tickets, and owns most of the search results.

The official channels, and what each one returned

A portal that times out from Europe may answer in a second from a phone in Hangzhou. A firewall returning 403 to everything is a decision somebody made. Either way, planning from outside China puts you where we are, and the English page quoting one confident number has checked nothing you cannot check yourself.

What the record says Moganshan tickets cost

Every figure carries a named publisher and a date. Tier 1 is official, tier 2 dated local news, tier 3 a dated guide, tier 4 marketing quotable only as a claim.

Read that as a range rather than a bill. The strongest line, RMB 80 at the window, rests on a guide from 2023 and another from 2020 that happens to agree. Two guides agreeing is not a price notice. The RMB 70 line is the only evidence in the record that booking ahead is cheaper, and it is worth ten yuan: a discount, not a strategy.

Budget RMB 130 a head for the gate and both buses. Anything less is change back, which is the right way round to be wrong.

There is more than one Moganshan, and they all sell tickets

Some of the disagreement is not confusion. It is people pricing different things under one name. The protected core above the villages is the Moganshan National Scenic Area, and that is what the RMB 80 buys. Around it sit separately run, separately ticketed places that listings and taxi drivers also call Moganshan. Jiangnan Yaowu (江南瑶坞), a resort at Dayao village, opened for trial operation on 30 March 2024 with its own gate and its own online ticket.

Yucun (庾村) and Houwu (后坞) are scenic areas in their own right too. When the province listed the sites giving free entry to exam candidates in June 2023, both appeared under their own names.

So a page quoting a figure nothing like RMB 80 may not be wrong. It may be pricing a zip line at a resort sharing the mountain’s name, and the scenic area page sets out what sits inside the boundary. Check two prices are for the same gate before you compare them.

The page at the top of the results says a machine wrote it

Search the 2026 tariff in Chinese and the first results hand you a clean, confident answer. RMB 100 in peak season, RMB 80 in the shoulder, RMB 50 in winter, with online prices of RMB 85 and RMB 65. It reads like a price notice. It is not one. These are syndicated guides on a social platform, and the one published on 18 September 2026, the day before we looked, names a booking platform and a search engine as its sources and carries a line in its own footer saying the content was generated by AI.

We cannot show the seasonal tariff is wrong. Tiered pricing is normal at Chinese scenic areas and the figures are plausible. What we can show is where they come from: a machine paraphrasing a booking site, which is not a source.

Concessions, and the rules that stay consistent

Discount rules are the most stable thing on this page. They go by height and age, applied at the window against a document rather than a booking.

One catch, and it catches families. The concession is on the gate ticket only. The coach and the loop bus are transport, charged separately, and no source we found gives a child discount on either, so a free ticket for a five year old still costs RMB 50 in bus fares. Carry the document itself; a photograph will not do.

A room inside the gate does not cover entry

Guests at a property inside the scenic area often assume the booking covers the ticket, because it does cover the right to drive in.

It does not, and the county paper set the procedure out for a National Day holiday. A guest with a booking inside the boundary takes the reservation and the registered number plate to the Fatou (筏头) transfer centre, collects a pass to drive up, and buys a scenic area ticket. That report is from 2019 and the rules have moved since, so treat the paperwork as the shape of the thing rather than as today’s procedure. The principle has held: the private car ban governs the road, the ticket governs the gate, and they are separate transactions. Most visitors meet neither, because the guesthouses and the lanes sit below the boundary.

The clock is the harder constraint

Overpay at the gate and you are out RMB 50, the width of the disagreement. Miss the last bus and you lose the evening. The published hours disagree as badly as the prices.

Five readings across four dates, with no published seasonal calendar behind them. A sixth reading, gate hours of 08:00 to 17:00, sits only on undated listing pages and is not cited here. The number that circulates, and what nobody here has done

The ticket line quoted for the scenic area is 0572-8412345. It appears on listing page after listing page, none dated, so by our own rules it is a lead, not a source. Ring it before you count on it.

Nobody here has rung it, and nobody has stood at the window. That is a deliberate limit, not an oversight. Everything above comes from the published record, dated and tiered, and where that record contradicts itself we print the contradiction rather than the tidy answer.

Ask your guesthouse, which sells tickets all season, or the desk at the transfer centre, which quotes the gate price on the day. Either settles it faster than any website, this one included, which is why this page goes back through its sources each quarter.
