About 1,000 places to sleep sit around the foot of one hill in Deqing County, Huzhou prefecture, Zhejiang Province. The hill is Moganshan, about 60 km north of Hangzhou and 200 to 240 km from Shanghai. It is not Moganshan Road, the Shanghai art district that takes over the search results whenever you type the name.
Almost none of those 1,000 are hotels. Photographs will not sort them, because they all look alike and the map means nothing to you yet. What sorts them is the village you sleep in, then the price band, then the kind of property you are booking.
First, the disclosure. This site holds no featured placements and no sponsored listings, and covers every property on the same terms. Nobody has bought a position here and nobody has been offered one.
Which village suits you
The villages sit around the foot of the mountain, not on top of it, and the distances between them are real. Houwu is about 30 minutes from Yucun, a long way to go for dinner.

Yucun is the safe first choice, because the main gateway and most of the restaurants are there. It is also the busiest. Over National Day 2025, daily footfall ran 30 to 40 percent above normal.
Xiantan is where it gets interesting. About 135 guesthouses compete inside a village of under 2,000 residents, and that density produces the price range you see online. It is mostly guesthouses rather than a village with guesthouses in it.
The others are quieter, and quiet costs something. Without a car, a village 30 minutes from Yucun is one you will not leave after 6 pm, which makes your guesthouse your restaurant.
Thirty minutes is the far end of the village-to-village drive; the ones sharing a flank of the hill are closer. The villages guide covers each in detail.
The rule that decides your arrival day
This matters more than the train timetable does.

What each price band buys
Village settled, the next question is money, and here the mountain behaves oddly. Rates move with the calendar more than with the property. The same room can cost RMB 400 on a March Tuesday and over RMB 1,000 on an August Saturday.

Those bands were last checked on 5 August 2026 and move faster than anything else here. Rooms above RMB 1,500 grew 42 percent year on year, so owners think the money is at the top.
That does not make the RMB 400 room bad. Off season and midweek it is the best value on the mountain. It does mean the middle attracts less investment than the top, so read the property, not the band.
The calendar sits on the seasons page. July and August are the core season, the May and October Golden Weeks spike hard, and Mondays are quiet.
That calendar also decides how early to book. For a Golden Week, book early: high-end occupancy hit 94 percent over the May 2024 holiday. Midweek there is usually room, since sector occupancy ran about 55 percent in 2024, and a few weeks’ notice is enough.
The four kinds of property here
Moganshan accommodation comes in four kinds, and price does not tell you which you are walking into.

Individual property pages are still in research. They need first-hand stays and photography, and until that exists, no rating goes up that has not been earned. A ranked list could be built from other people’s marketing copy this afternoon, and it would tell you nothing.
The Four Seasons, announced for 2030
On 12 September 2025, Four Seasons announced a Moganshan resort: 90 keys on a 23-hectare site in Yu Village, opening in 2030. The developer is Zhejiang Shangyin Cultural Tourism Development Co., a subsidiary of the Deqing County Cultural and Tourism Development Group. Its press release calls the project “Moganshan’s first international luxury resort with direct access to natural hot springs”.

It gets searched a lot, and the sober reading is short. No Four Seasons room exists here today, an announced date is not a confirmed one, and 2030 changes nothing about a trip this year.
The announcement gives the site as Yu Village, which is close enough to Yucun (庾村), the hub village above, to be confusing. Treat them as two names, not one.
The market picture nobody puts in a listing
This last part is about the business rather than your trip, and it decides what you walk into. One guesthouse in 2002, about a thousand by September 2025. That climb left a mixed inheritance.

Occupancy fell while beds kept being added, so owners are chasing a smaller share of a bigger market. The effect on your booking is direct. An owner under that pressure either reinvests or quietly stops spending, and no booking page tells you which. Nothing holds the middle of this market to a standard, so read recent reviews and study photographs of the room, not the terrace.
Dinner is the decision people forget
Chinese reporting on the sector puts it plainly. These villages have no evening economy: no night market, very little late food.
Yucun has a square, a market and restaurants. The smaller villages mostly do not. Drop your bags in Houwu at seven, go looking for dinner, and you may find none.
Book half board for most stays. Half board means the room rate includes breakfast and dinner. Use whichever booking channel you like, then message the property before you pay. Ask whether they cook dinner and book it for your arrival night, ask whether they can register a foreign passport, and say how you are arriving. Meal pricing is set property by property with no published standard, so get the number in writing.
Set up Alipay or WeChat Pay before you land. Foreign cards have been linkable to both since 2023, and a village guesthouse may not take one. Money and payments walks through the setup.
