Advertise with us

If you run a hotel, a guesthouse, a restaurant, an attraction or a service that visitors to this mountain pay for, this page explains how advertising here works and how to ask for a proposal.

This site is read by people deciding whether to come to this mountain, where to sleep when they do, and what to do with the two days they have. If you run something those people pay for, you can reach them here.

Visit Moganshan is an English language guide to Moganshan, published from Hong Kong. It is written for travelers coming from Shanghai and Hangzhou, and for the smaller number who fly into China with the mountain already on the list. Nearly every visitor to this site is in the planning window: still choosing, not yet booked.

Who this is for

Anything a visitor spends money on is in scope. In practice that means:

  • Hotels and resorts, from a twelve room villa conversion to a full property
  • Guesthouses and minsu, including the ones that never appear in English anywhere else
  • Restaurants, cafes, tea houses and bars
  • Attractions, museums, gardens and paid viewpoints
  • Spas, pools, climbing walls, bamboo rafting, archery, anything sold by the session
  • Walking guides, cycling operators, drivers and airport transfer services
  • Tour operators, DMCs and inbound agencies building product around the mountain
  • Shops selling something a visitor carries home: bamboo, tea, silk

About a thousand guesthouses sit within a short drive of the gate, and almost none of them are findable in English.

You do not need to be inside the scenic area. Deqing, Wuzhen, Anji, Hangzhou and the Shanghai departure end of the trip are all part of the same journey, and a reader planning a Moganshan weekend books more than a bed on it.

How advertising here works

There is no menu, and there is no rate card.

Every arrangement on this site is built one at a time, because the thing that makes a placement worth paying for is fit, and fit cannot be sold off a shelf. A slot that carries a transfer service is worth almost nothing to a tea house on the other side of the mountain. So the conversation starts with what you run and who is close to booking it, not with a package name.

Tell us what you do, and we will come back with a written proposal: where we think you belong on this site, what the arrangement would look like, how long it would run, and what it would cost. If we do not think any page on this site fits your business yet, we will say that instead, and it costs you nothing to have asked.

Paid space here is deliberately scarce. A page cluttered with commercial boxes stops being useful, and a reader who stops trusting a page is worth nothing to anybody advertising on it. That scarcity is the reason we cannot publish a price list. It is also the reason the space is worth something.

The reader this site reaches is still deciding. By the time they are on the lane, the booking is already made.

Everything paid is labeled

Sponsored content says sponsored, in the page, where a reader sees it before they read the copy rather than after. Commercial links are marked rel="sponsored" in the source, which is how you tell a search engine a link is paid. That costs us search value and we do it anyway. How this site is funded sets out the whole policy, including the affiliate commissions we already earn on some booking links.

A thick stack of printed page proofs with a pen laid on top, beside a laptop on a dark desk
What we need from you is the boring half: rates, hours, the license on your photographs, and someone who answers email.

What we need from you

Photographs you own or have written permission to publish, at a decent size. The correct name of the business in English and in Chinese. Your rates or rate bands, and the season they apply to. Opening hours, and the months you close. An address a driver can find. A phone number or an email that a real person reads. If you take bookings through a platform, the link.

That is most of the work, and the arrangements that go badly are the ones where it arrives in pieces over six weeks.

Ask for a proposal

Write through the contact form and choose Advertiser from the topic list. Tell us what you run, where it is, and roughly what you had in mind spending. You get a written proposal, the pages we would put you on, and a plain account of what we can and cannot promise about the traffic they carry.

It reaches the same inbox as everything else, and we reply from a real address so you can answer straight back.

Corrections stay free and always will. If something on this site about your business is wrong, tell us and we will fix it, whether you ever advertise here or not.

Advertising arrangements are agreed individually and quoted in writing on request. Nothing on this page is a rate card. Audience figures are shared on request rather than published.
