This is the loosest category on the mountain and the one whose names promise the most. Trip.com does not classify properties by kind, so the 102 places here are grouped by what they call themselves: an inn, a lodge, a cabin, a camp or a glamping site, a retreat, a hideaway, a club or a 营地. Some are a converted village house that chose the word for its sound. Others are tents on platforms beside a reservoir. The photographs on each card, which are the property’s own listing images, will tell you which faster than the name does.
Where it is real, the outdoor offer is on the south and west sides. Laoling (劳岭村) on the south has the reservoir, the kayaking and the cycling and was one of the earliest farmstay clusters. Dazaowu (大造坞) is the most remote of the villages, out among rice paddies by the Dadouwu reservoir, with the longest drive and the fewest doors. Both are a long way from Yucun’s restaurants, and a camp or a cabin is a place where dinner has to be arranged before you arrive rather than found afterwards. Hiking and the bamboo forest cover what the outdoor days look like.
Rates follow the same curve as everything else here, with weekends and the Golden Weeks costing two or three times a March Tuesday, and canvas is no cheaper than walls on a summer Saturday. The dollar figure on each card is the cheapest rate Trip.com showed on the day of capture, shown with the yuan. A tented site is also the kind of property most exposed to the weather, and Moganshan gets a plum-rain season in June and typhoon rain in late summer, so read the weather page before booking a canvas roof for July.
The access rule applies with extra force. Private vehicles cannot drive inside the scenic area, the three transfer centers at Yucun, Fatou and Houwu keep an 08:00 to 18:00 day, and a remote site will have its own arrangement for the last leg. Get that in writing along with the dinner question and, if you hold a foreign passport, a confirmation that they can register you.

The best stay of our trip to Huzhou, and I liked it more than the Kaiyuan forest resort. The owner is genuinely wonderful, welcoming and thorough. He gave us coffee vouchers and told us where to go and dig bamboo shoots. My phone fell into the undergrowth below the inn and he went to great trouble to retrieve it. There are single use bath liners and everything else you need, and the hot water is good. The setting is easy. You can dig shoots and pick wild strawberries on the hill behind, and the tea estate and the mine shaft cafe nearby are worth an hour. In the evening he sent us to the nearby town, which is well worth seeing. The photographs match the rooms exactly. Strongly recommended.

We came out for a break with friends and picked this place more or less at random, and it was the right choice. The atmosphere is easy and unhurried with nothing heavy about it. Look at the photographs. Look at the video. No directions before arrival, so we spent the drive in guessing, in the rain. No registration on arrival, no process to speak of. Nobody told us the wifi password, so even that we had to work out ourselves. Not a bottle of drinking water in the place. No basic standard of cleanliness, and the details were grubby. And no breakfast, which the booking page promised, because they are not set up to make one. An education of a stay, and a poor advertisement for a mountain that has both scenery and history behind it. If any of this is wrong, the owner is welcome to correct me.

A restorative little courtyard deep in Moganshan. It is quiet and unhurried, with green on every side, and the rooms are clean and open, so you push the window and there is nothing but hillside. Chen leads tai chi and standing practice and a morning breathing session, built up gradually, and I felt clear and loose afterwards. Ding runs a singing bowl session where the sound smooths out the anxiety and the tiredness, and I slept deeply for the first time in a while. There is also afternoon tea practice, copying sutras, and we made plum and bayberry wine together. Sitting in the sun with the cats, or doing nothing at all on the hillside, is a complete escape from the grind of a city. Genuinely restorative, and I have not stopped thinking about it since.

One of the countless reasons to like Moganshan is the people. Staying here is not only about the view and the food. I liked talking to the family most of all. The owner and her mother in law are both wonderful, and a house where those two get on this well could hardly be anything but happy. They gave us vegetables from their garden as well. Thank you both.
I cannot say enough about this place, the best value on Moganshan. On the good side: a couple in middle age run it themselves and anticipate everything, with tea, snacks and cut watermelon ready before we arrived. The house has clearly been designed around parties of six to eight, which you can see in how the rooms are arranged, in the dining room and in the second floor terrace. And the shared facilities are well kept, with karaoke, an arcade machine, a pool and a mahjong room on the ground floor, all of which work properly and were a pleasure to use for adults and children alike. The one drawback: the internet is slow and the router could do with an upgrade. That was the only fault I found.

We arrived late and the owner upgraded us for nothing, to a room with a small balcony. He is an easy going man and moved his own car so we could park. There were noodles in the morning. Guesthouses generally have poor soundproofing though, and somebody coming back in the middle of the night will wake you. A little further downstream by the village office you can catch shrimp.

Good position, easy underground parking, and an easy walk to Moganshan and Yucun. The room was very clean and well equipped and the host was extremely nice, recommending sights and places to eat with no misses. I would come back.
It is not inside the Moganshan scenic area, but the position and having the place to ourselves were both very satisfying. The courtyard is large, and the second floor terrace is perfect for cards and tea. The owner is welcoming and took us up the hill himself to dig shoots and pick tea, at no charge. I suggested he add a pool table and a table tennis table so there is more for children to do. I will go back in the summer.

A work weekend with colleagues built around the Moganshan trail race. The guesthouse is on the route itself, a dozen minutes walk from the start and close to the square, with plenty of restaurants. The cook does a generous breakfast and it is good. A very good stay.
