Where to leave your bags: luggage storage at Deqing station and the transfer centre

No dated source confirms anywhere to leave a suitcase between Deqing station and the mountain. The station lockers sit behind security, the free desk at the transfer centre is a 2019 report, and Hangzhou's lockers are priced.

It’s easy to assume that Deqing station, or the transfer centre below the mountain, will take a suitcase for the day. The written record says otherwise. No source dated after 2019 confirms any Moganshan luggage storage on the way up, and the one that does describes a service our own desk check could not find in August 2026. Plan to keep your bags with you or at your guesthouse.

Moganshan (莫干山) is a mountain in Deqing County (德清县), Huzhou, Zhejiang, about 60 km north of Hangzhou and 200 to 240 km from Shanghai. Not Moganshan Road in Shanghai, the M50 art district. The bag question comes up at Deqing station and at the transfer centre (换乘中心) below the mountain.

Deqing station: lockers behind the security line

In July 2018 China Railway Shanghai Group (中国铁路上海局集团) put self service lockers into the waiting areas of 18 stations, Deqing (德清站) among them. The large compartment takes a wheeled case, and you pay by scanning a code with WeChat or Alipay.

The catch is where they stand. A second report on the same scheme notes that by the time you reach them, your ID and your ticket have been checked. They’re for people waiting for a train. If you’ve just got off one, you walk out the other side.

Neither report gives a Deqing price, and nothing dated since 2018 says the lockers are still there.

Next door, joined by an 80 m covered walkway, is the coach centre (客运中心) where the Y1 bus leaves. Its opening report lists everything from ticketing to shops. Left luggage isn’t on it.

The transfer centre: one free desk, three records

At Yucun (庾村) everything you carry comes off the Y1 or a taxi and onto the coach up the mountain. Three records disagree about whether any of it can stay behind.

At its launch in December 2018 the county tourism account listed the centre’s services: ticketing, enquiries, waiting, dining, meeting rooms, shopping.

A Chinese trip report from August 2019 says the service desk would keep bags free of charge. Its writer’s advice: leave your phone number with the staff, and take theirs.

Our own desk research in early August 2026 found no left luggage service there. The getting around page prints both readings.

The desk may still take bags and simply not advertise it. Or it stopped some time in the last seven years. Nobody here has rung the scenic area, no county notice we can reach settles it, and the shuttle page prints the same split. Ask at the service desk (服务台) before the coach leaves: show staff the words 行李寄存, left luggage, and have a fallback if the answer is no.

If the desk will keep a bag, ask what time it closes before you board. You collect it after the coach comes down, not before.

Leave the big case in Hangzhou

On a round trip that starts and ends in Hangzhou, that’s where the only priced, dated option we found sits. By October 2024 Hangzhou Metro had self service lockers at 39 stations, including the one at Hangzhou East.

Hangzhou Metro lockers at 39 stations, first 30 minutes free, then RMB 2, 4 and 5 an hour for small, medium and large, capped at RMB 12, 24 and 30 per 24 hours, Zhejiang Online (浙江在线), 1 October 2024, tier 2. https://zjnews.zjol.com.cn/yc/qmt/202410/t20241001_30560309.shtml

The report carries two warnings. The six large lockers at that station were full by about 09:00 on the first day of the National Day holiday. It sets no limit on how long a bag may stay, so ask before leaving one overnight. The Hangzhou page covers the train on to Deqing.

At the daily cap, two nights in a large locker comes to RMB 60, if the station will keep a bag that long.

What to do with your bags instead

Pack for carrying. Every change on the way up is made with the bag in your hand, and the last stretch to a guesthouse can be steps.

Before you arrive, tell your guesthouse how many bags you have and how big they are, and ask whether they will hold them on the day you check out. No published policy turned up for any property, so get the answer in writing.

Then work backwards. A bag held below the mountain is collected after the last coach down, which Tide News read off the Houwu board as 17:00.

Heavy cases on a first trip to China? The Deqing station page suggests a first night in Wukang. More practical questions are on the plan FAQ and across Plan your trip.
