A Moganshan snow trip starts with road access. Snow has closed the scenic area, and reopening has left individual sights shut. Check the town forecast before committing to the journey, then read the latest dated access notice. Keep the trip changeable if snow is the main reason for going.

Moganshan (莫干山) is in Deqing County (德清县), Huzhou (湖州), Zhejiang (浙江), China. This is the mountain and former hill station, not Moganshan Road in Shanghai, home to the M50 art district. The seasons guide compares the wider choices if you have not settled your travel dates.
This account uses the published Chinese record. We have not walked a snow route or called to confirm access. The dated examples below explain what can change; they do not report today’s conditions. Use this table to decide what to check, then read the evidence below.
| What you find | What it tells you | What to do next |
|---|---|---|
| Snow forecast or an icing warning | Weather may affect the outing | Look for dated road and scenic area notices |
| A closure notice | Access is restricted within its stated scope | Change the plan; do not seek an unofficial route |
| A reopening notice | Some access is returning | Read the exceptions and effective date |
| An old snow photograph | Snow was present when it was taken | Check its date before using it to plan |
What the Moganshan snow record shows
Deqing News reported 2 to 5 cm of snow in the high mountain area at 08:40 on 1 January 2026. In Houwu (后坞) and other villages named in the same report, grass held 1 to 2 cm, while their roads had no accumulated snow at that time. The county’s urban area mainly had rain.

The village road could be wet while snow lay higher up. Keep the observation location attached to any depth report you use.
Those observations cover one morning. We found no verified long term snowfall series, so we cannot give a dependable depth or tell you which week to book. The January report is evidence of snow on that date. For a future visit, keep the reservation changeable and wait for a relevant forecast.

Read the town forecast, then the notice
Use China Weather’s Moganshan town page, rather than treating a Shanghai or Hangzhou forecast as the mountain forecast. Check that the location reads Moganshan town (莫干山镇). Read the period covering your return journey too.

Read it again before leaving.
A forecast is the prompt to check access with the scenic area management or county government. Seek their latest notice. If you cannot read it, ask your host to send the complete notice and explain which roads or sights it names. Keep the issuing organisation and date attached.
We could not retrieve those official notice sites during this research, so we cannot confirm current access here.
The reopening that still excluded Sword Pond
Road icing temporarily closed the scenic area on the evening of 30 January 2026. Tide News reported that the management centre announced reopening from 1 February after snow clearance and inspections. Sword Pond (剑池) and Dakeng (大坑) were among the sights still excluded.

Read the exceptions carefully if you’re coming for the waterfall. This is a historical example, not the current status of Sword Pond or Dakeng.
For your visit, check whether the particular walk you want is included in any reopening. What closes in winter sets out the distinction between scenic area access and individual facilities. Do not take a path around a barrier because an older guide describes a route.
Can you plan around the ice waterfall?
Deqing Release promoted Sword Pond’s ice waterfall and winter rime in a 19 January 2025 holiday feature republished by Shangguan News (上观新闻). The promotion gives no dependable ice viewing season. You still need to check whether the path is open on your date.

Before planning around a photograph of hanging ice, ask when it was taken and whether access to the named sight is currently permitted. If a forwarded image has no date, leave it out of the decision. Stay away from hanging ice. Follow any barriers or staff instructions; this article does not identify a cleared viewing path.
The Sword Pond guide explains the sight itself. There is no snow walking itinerary here because we have not verified an open route. If access is uncertain, leave that walk out of the day’s plan.

Book a room you can spend the afternoon in
An empty looking villa in a snow photograph may not be available to enter. It doesn’t establish room availability either. We have no verified winter vacancy inventory. Choose accommodation on its actual offer for your dates, not on the promise of having the hill station to yourself.
Ask what heats the bedroom and whether dinner is served on your arrival evening. A fireplace in a lounge photograph does not answer either question. Heating in a Republic era villa has the questions to ask. Keep the room type and meal arrangements in the booking conversation. Check the cancellation terms while changing dates is still an option, including what happens if the approach becomes restricted. Permission to reach accommodation would not itself confirm access to a sightseeing route. Choose a room where you would be comfortable spending the afternoon if the walk is cancelled. Look beyond the terrace photographs when comparing rooms.

Keep the return journey workable
It is easier to agree collection while you are still at the accommodation. Give your host or driver the property’s Chinese address and agree a meeting point that you can identify. Ask whether that point remains usable if mountain access changes. If the driver cannot reach it, agree another permitted meeting point before setting off. Save the address and arrangements where you can read them without a data connection.
| Confirm for your visit | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| The last return service and its departure point | An attraction closing time is not a bus timetable |
| The accommodation’s final approach | A room booking does not settle road access |
| A revised collection point if restrictions change | The original meeting place may become unusable |
| Room and transport cancellation terms | Different bookings may have different conditions |
Use the shuttle guide to understand the services, then obtain the current arrangements for your date. We print no fixed winter timetable here. If nobody can confirm the return service, arrange another permitted way back before starting the outing. Leave room before a reserved train.
Compare Moganshan stays with heating and meals in mind, including what the room offers if you spend the afternoon indoors.
