Most of what this site says about winter is that it is cheap and quiet. For one week it is neither. Over Spring Festival 2026 the county paper named Moganshan guesthouses that were full seven days running. The short answer on Moganshan Chinese New Year: it is open and it is busy. Book the room first.
Moganshan (莫干山) is a bamboo mountain and former hill station in Deqing County (德清县), Huzhou (湖州), Zhejiang, about 60 km north of Hangzhou and 200 to 240 km from Shanghai. Moganshan Road in Shanghai, the M50 art district, is a different place.

Moganshan Chinese New Year 2027: the dates, and what is not yet known
The lunar new year falls on Saturday 6 February 2027. The day before, Friday 5 February, is New Year’s Eve (除夕), the night of the family dinner.

Four of the days off are fixed by law. Since 1 January 2025 the statutory holiday has been New Year’s Eve plus the first three days of the year, which in 2027 means Friday 5 to Monday 8 February.

The rest is not published yet. The rules let the State Council General Office stretch the four days by swapping weekend days, and its yearly notice sets the block. In 2026 that gave nine days, 15 to 23 February, starting the day before New Year’s Eve, with Saturdays 14 and 28 February worked. The 2026 notice came out on 4 November 2025. On 30 October 2026 the 2027 notice was not yet on the government’s website, and we won’t guess its days. Until it appears, book something you can cancel.

Six or seven sold out nights
In February 2026 Deqing News named the houses. Moganshan Yinshi (莫干山·隐时) was full seven days in a row. YOLO Yuanle (YOLO原乐) and Xipo Yujie (西坡庾街) were full for six, and several others for five. A guest from Beijing told the paper the room had taken more than a month’s notice.

The averages tell a softer story. Huzhou’s 172 graded guesthouses averaged 65.6 per cent occupancy over the holiday, its 46 monitored tourist hotels 62.9 per cent. So the houses people already know fill, while the average one still had a room. Province wide, Zhejiang’s culture and tourism department counted 46.04 million visitors, up 24.7 per cent, with Huzhou growing fastest.

The big resorts show where in the week the pressure sits. Kaiyuan Senbo (开元森泊), a Moganshan resort with a water park, said it sold 900 to 1,000 rooms a day on days two to four of the 2026 holiday. In 2024 the same resort passed 90 per cent, and Mantian (缦田), a 45 room property, was full from day one to day four and above 70 per cent from day five to day eight.

What a Spring Festival room costs
There is one price on the record. It is three years old. In 2024 a Moganshan guesthouse manager told CCTV’s finance programme the house was about 80 per cent booked for the holiday, at RMB 1,200 a night and up, roughly 50 per cent more than usual. Nobody has published a 2025 or 2026 holiday rate we can cite.

Put that beside our own low season band, RMB 300 to 500 a night for a midrange room, and the holiday stops looking like winter. The band is for budgeting; the quote is one house in one year.

What is open over the holiday
The festival does not shut the mountain. On the third day of Spring Festival 2026, Deqing News found visitors already in the Moganshan transfer centre (旅游集散中心) before 09:00, and New Year events running on Mogan Yujie (莫干庾街), the street of shops and cafes in Yucun (庾村). In 2023 the paper reported the scenic area itself taking visitors over the holiday.

What runs in Yucun changes from year to year. In 2025 the second day had woodblock printing, bamboo weaving, clay figures and lantern making, and a mulberry leaf dragon dance (舞桑叶龙). In 2024 a New Year folk festival opened in Yucun square on 26 January and ran past the holiday. The programme is published a week or so ahead by the county’s promotional accounts; whatever lands goes on the news page.

What we couldn’t find is a Spring Festival notice from the scenic area, with holiday hours or a holiday bus timetable. The latest dated timetable is December 2025 at the Houwu transfer point, 08:30 to 17:00, last bus down at 17:00. The shuttle guide has the services. Weather is the other risk. New Year’s Eve dinner: book it with the room
New Year’s Eve dinner (年夜饭) is the meal of the year. In 2024 People’s Daily Online found Moganshan guesthouses and hotels cooking it for guests who had come a long way; Jun’anli (郡安里) put a “dragon year luck” hotpot on the menu. Another guesthouse had sold its rooms for days two to seven a month ahead.

No price for a guesthouse New Year’s Eve dinner is on the dated record. The only per head figure we found is a 2016 promotion from a booking platform, and we do not print it. Down in the county town, the Deqing Marriott’s Chinese restaurant was fully booked for New Year’s Eve by 11 February 2026, and another restaurant said people began ringing two to three months ahead.

So ask when you book the room. Does the house cook on New Year’s Eve, at what price a head or a table, and for guests only? Get the answer in writing. If it does not cook, find out where you will eat before you arrive.
What to book, and in what order
The room first. In 2024 one guesthouse had sold the middle of the holiday a month out. In December 2024 a Moganshan resort hotel already had more than 40 per cent of its 87 rooms taken for the next Spring Festival.

Trains second, because you can’t buy them early. Tickets go on sale 15 days before travel. In 2026 the first day of the holiday, 15 February, went on sale on 1 February. On that rule, a train on New Year’s Eve 2027 goes on sale on 21 January (our arithmetic). The waitlist (候补) takes six open orders, each with up to three dates. One honest negative. If you came for the quiet, this is the wrong week; the rest of winter on the mountain has it at low season prices. If the holiday is the only time you have, choose the house first and see what is still free on Trip.com.
