naked Stables is a resort on Moganshan, a bamboo mountain in Deqing County, Huzhou prefecture, Zhejiang Province, 200 to 240 km from Shanghai and 60 km from Hangzhou. It opened in 2011 and runs about 121 keys, which is the trade’s word for rooms. If your search turned up a Shanghai art district, that is Moganshan Road, 200 km away and unconnected.
The lowercase n is theirs, not a typo. This page exists because naked Stables is the Moganshan name most travelers arrive already knowing. It is why the outside world knows the mountain at all, and why people arrive expecting somewhere more international than they find.
Why there is no rating on this page

naked Retreats in Moganshan: where the company came from
The company is better documented than the hotel. In 2007, in a village called Sanjiuwu at the foot of the mountain, a South African named Grant Horsfield took some village houses and turned them into naked Home Village. Locals had a word for what he had made: a “yangjiale” (洋家乐), a foreigner’s farmstay. His was the first.
naked Stables came four years later, in 2011, on a larger site, carrying the LEED Platinum certification. The group added naked Castle in 2017, about 95 keys, worked into a villa a Scottish physician-missionary called Maitland built in 1910 to look like an English castle. That 2012 list numbered its entries. It did not rank them. The entry is paywalled, so we confirmed it through a post from the time.
Then it stopped. The coverage sits between 2010 and 2012, and much of it is about one company. We found no Moganshan feature in BBC Travel, Condé Nast Traveler, National Geographic Traveller, Monocle, the Financial Times or Travel + Leisure. Lonely Planet lists a point of interest and no Best in Travel place.
Huzhou and Deqing publish no foreign-visitor figure, so nobody can say how many international travelers reach it.
So the mountain reads as more established abroad than it is. Investors here do come from 18 countries. But there are about 1,000 guesthouses, roughly 80 percent individually owned, and most are small village businesses. Almost none resemble naked Stables.
Getting there
The journey is the same as for any bed here, and Deqing is your station. Moganshan railway station does not serve the mountain, whatever its name says.

Pudong is the one that surprises people.
One rule catches almost everyone out. No private vehicle may drive into the scenic area. You get out and change vehicles on the way in. Three centers handle it: Yucun, Fatou and Houwu. All three work 08:00 to 18:00.
Whether naked Stables sits inside that zone, and whether it collects guests, is the thing to settle before you book a train. Treat 18:00 as your deadline at Deqing and ask the property first. Getting around sets out the shuttle times.
What a Moganshan luxury resort costs
One number covers this property and naked Castle: roughly USD 291 to 524 a night, recorded in 2025. Neither is priced separately in it.
Treat that as a range across two hotels. No room is sold at the band, nothing is broken out by season, and Moganshan rates change a lot between a March Tuesday and an August Saturday. The local trade treats anything above RMB 1,500 as high end.
Every other property with rooms sits on the hotels index, and the top of the market on luxury stays. Where to stay begins with the village question, which shapes a Moganshan trip more than the brand on the gate.
