You searched for the best hotels in Moganshan. This page will not hand you a ranked top ten, and the reason matters more than the list would.
The Moganshan in question is the bamboo mountain, in Deqing County, Huzhou prefecture, Zhejiang Province: 200 to 240 km from Shanghai, 60 km from Hangzhou, and about 200 km from the Shanghai art district on Moganshan Road that your search probably turned up first.
Why this page refuses to rank
Every ranked list of Moganshan hotels was written by someone who has not stayed in them. The method is easy to watch. Pull review scores off a booking site, sort them high to low, write a paragraph of adjectives around each name. That is arithmetic on other people’s opinions. It is not knowledge.
Nobody on this site has spent a night in a Moganshan hotel either. The difference is that we say so, and score nothing.
Which invites a fair objection: why read this instead of the ranking? Because the ranking answers a question the mountain does not have. Search “Moganshan hotels” and almost none of the results are hotels. They are minsu (民宿), small guesthouses, roughly 80 percent individually owned. Twelve properties carry a hotel name, all on our hotels page. The rest is about 1,000 houses and some 10,000 beds. A top ten is ten names out of a thousand, sorted by a system nobody has audited.
For the record, this site sells no sponsored listings or featured placements, and nobody has been offered one.
What we can offer is a Moganshan hotel comparison built on five checkable things. Get them wrong and you rarely end up in a bad room. You end up in a fine room in the wrong village, on a night that cost double.
One: the village, and its distance from a transfer center
Moganshan is not a town with hotels in it. It is a mountain ringed by villages, and which one you book decides the day.

Mostly it comes down to dinner. Chinese reporting keeps landing on the same gap: these villages have no evening economy, meaning no night market and little food after dark. Yucun has a square and restaurants. Houwu, half an hour off, does not. Without a car, the village you are in at 6 pm is the village you eat in. Hence half board.
| Village | The short version |
|---|---|
| Yucun (庾村) | The hub. Market, restaurants, main gateway |
| Xiantan (仙潭村) | Northern foot, about 135 guesthouses |
| Houwu (后坞) | West, 30 minutes out. Also a transfer center |
| Wukang (武康) | County seat, 20 km off. Not the mountain |
Village profiles and guesthouse counts, BeyondBorder Group Ltd primary research, 1 to 5 August 2026.
Houwu to Yucun is about 30 minutes, which is the far end of it. Villages on the same flank sit closer together.
Two: inside or outside the scenic area
Distance is one thing. Access is another, and this rule catches people out.
| The rule | What it costs you |
|---|---|
| No private vehicle drives inside the scenic area | You change vehicles on the way in |
| Three transfer centers: Yucun, Fatou and Houwu | The property you book decides which |
| All three run 08:00 to 18:00 | Land at Deqing at seven and they shut an hour ago |
Tickets cost extra and published prices disagree. One source gives RMB 120 online, RMB 130 at the gate. Another gives RMB 50 off season, RMB 80 at peak. Winter is half price, so check when you book.
Ticket prices from conflicting sources, BeyondBorder Group Ltd primary research, 1 to 5 August 2026.
Two questions settle the rest: which transfer center serves the property, and does anyone meet guests. Shuttle times are on getting around.
Three: price, against what the market actually charges
A rate means nothing on its own. It means something against the local band.

| Band | A night | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Mid-range, off season | RMB 300 to 500 | The converted village house. The normal stay |
| Mid-range, peak or holiday | RMB 1,000+ | Often the same room, on a date that costs more |
| High end | RMB 1,500+ | The threshold the local trade uses |
| Resort brands | about USD 291 to 524 | naked Stables and naked Castle |
Rate bands, BeyondBorder Group Ltd primary research, 1 to 5 August 2026.
A quote of RMB 900 is usually a peak price wearing a mid-range label. Check the same room on a Tuesday first. Rooms above RMB 1,500 grew 42 percent year on year, so the new building is at the top and nothing holds the middle to a standard.
Four: how many rooms it has
About 1,000 properties share roughly 10,000 beds. Our arithmetic puts the average near ten beds each. One 340-room hotel skews it, but the shape holds. Most places here are a house, not a building.
The exceptions are countable. Le Passage Mohkan Shan runs about 28 keys, naked Castle about 95, naked Stables about 121, the Crowne Plaza Deqing Moganshan about 340 out in Wukang.
Key counts, BeyondBorder Group Ltd primary research, 1 to 5 August 2026.
A party of eight will not fit in most of the mountain. Groups take two or three houses. Ask the room count before the rate.
Five: the date you go
Occupancy ran about 55 percent across the sector in 2024, down from about 70 before 2021. That is your bargaining position most nights. The average hides the rest.

| When | What happens |
|---|---|
| Golden Weeks, May and October | High-end occupancy hit 94 percent in May 2024. Yucun footfall ran 30 to 40 percent above normal, National Day 2025 |
| July and August | The core season, and priced like it |
| Mondays and midweek off season | Quiet. Where the RMB 300 to 500 band is real |
Occupancy and footfall figures, BeyondBorder Group Ltd primary research, 1 to 5 August 2026.
For a Golden Week, book early and expect the peak band. At 94 percent the choice gets made for you. Seasons has the weather.
Putting the five together
None of the five weighs the same for everyone. The third column is what you can leave to chance.
| If you are | Prioritize | Worry less about |
|---|---|---|
| First visit, no car, one night | Yucun, walking distance to gateway and food | Brand |
| Arriving after 18:00 | Wukang, or a property that collects guests | The view on night one |
| A couple, two or three nights | Half board, and what gets served | Key count |
| A group of six or more | Key count, and whether one house holds you | Which village sounds better |
| Going in a Golden Week | Booking date, then transfer center | Price band, set for you |
| On a budget, dates flexible | Midweek off season in Xiantan | Peak-season names |
Xiantan earns its row on density. About 135 guesthouses among under 2,000 residents is the closest thing to price competition.
That table is the framework. The rest is vocabulary.
The names, and what they are examples of
These are categories, not recommendations. None has had a night of our money in it.
| Category | Named examples |
|---|---|
| Foreign-founded resort | naked Stables (2011), naked Castle (2017), naked Home Village (2007) |
| Small property | Le Passage Mohkan Shan |
| Off-mountain hotel | Crowne Plaza Deqing Moganshan |
| Family resort | Kaiyuan Senbo, which has a waterpark |
| State-owned | Moganshan Hotel |
| Announced, not open | Four Seasons Moganshan, 90 keys, 2030 |
The last row is an announcement, not a booking.
Moganshan resort announcement, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, 12 September 2025.
Luxury stays covers the top end, and what a minsu is covers village guesthouses.
What would let us publish a real list
One thing. Stays we book and pay for ourselves, written up afterward with dates.
A real list would rank on what a guest can test. Whether dinner was available, whether the transfer worked, whether a foreign passport got registered without a phone call. Booking pages carry none of that.
The work is slow and costs money, and no press rate goes into it, because this site takes none. Until then the five variables above are the honest shortlist, and where to stay covers the same ground at length.
Rates, occupancy and key counts stand as at 6 August 2026. Prices swing between weekday and weekend, so check your night.
