Rain is forecast for all three race days

The national forecast for Deqing, issued on Wednesday 21 October, has rain on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Thursday stays cloudy at 15 to 21 °C. Friday 23 October starts with light rain and turns moderate, 16 to 21 °C. Saturday is moderate rain easing to light, 18 to 22 °C. Sunday is light rain, 18 to 22 °C. Monday 26 October is the first dry day, cloudy then sunny.

The National Meteorological Centre (中央气象台) gives the same wet days, with lows up to two degrees higher. Both forecasts are for the county town. The mountain is higher and usually cooler.

What this means for a visitor: the stone paths will be wet from Friday to Sunday, so pack a rain layer and shoes with grip, and move any long walk to Monday if you can.

The Skyrace starts on Friday evening in Yucun

The Kailas Moganshan Skyrace (凯乐石莫干山跑山赛) starts and finishes on Yuxin North Street (庾信北街) in Yucun. The 100 km field leaves at 18:00 on Friday and the 70 km at 19:00, so runners climb through the night. The 50 km starts at 06:00 on Saturday and the 20 km at 08:30. The 30 km goes at 06:00 on Sunday, the two 10 km races at 09:00 and 09:30, and the last cut off is 16:00 on Sunday.

On 21 October every race shuttle on the organiser’s page was marked closed, including the RMB 15 seats from Deqing station and Deqing West. Mogan Yujie (莫干庾街), the shopping street in Yucun, is holding a street party over the same three days, with a market, workshops, a music night and an outdoor fashion show on Saturday. The street’s post, carried by the county paper, puts the field at 15,000 runners. That figure is the street’s; the organiser has published none.

We found no traffic notice for this year’s race by Wednesday evening. Last year’s was issued on 17 October, a week before the start. It put Yuxin North Street under traffic control for all three days and shut Zhuyuan Road (竹源路), Huangfu Road (黄郛路), the Yulan road (于烂线) and Cuiying Road (翠莹路) to traffic in phases.

What this means for a visitor: if you are not running, keep your car out of Yucun from Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon, and expect headtorches and runners on the paths above the villages through Friday night.

Spartan Race entries close on 31 October

The Spartan Race (斯巴达勇士赛) at Moganshan is still listed for Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 November. Its registration page, read on 21 October, closes entries at 23:59 on Saturday 31 October. The news desk has already reported a women only trail race on 13 December, with entries open until 12 November.

What this means for a visitor: if you want to race in November, enter by 31 October; if you don’t, treat 7 and 8 November as the next busy weekend when you book a room.

Three new places at Laoling and on Yujie

An autumn round up in Deqing News names two places that are open now. At Laoling (劳岭村), a team from Hangzhou has turned an underused fruit picking farm of about 200 mu (13 hectares) into 麓禾村 (Luhe Village), with kayaks, off road karts, camping and farm activities. The paper says it took more than 1,000 visitors a day at its peak. On Yujie, the Danish outdoor brand Nordisk has opened a brand centre with a camping area, a gear shop and a café.

Also on Yujie, 钝行酿造所 (Dunxing Brewing) has opened, making a dozen or so low alcohol sparkling drinks brewed from tea, plus kombucha and alcohol free versions. Its founders are working on one made with Mogan yellow tea (莫干黄茶). The Laoling tea farm café the news desk reported on Monday is in the same village. None of the reports gives opening hours or prices.

What this means for a visitor: if the rain keeps you off the paths, the two Yujie places are indoors in Yucun, while Luhe Village is mostly outdoors; ask your guesthouse to check opening hours before you set off.

Weddings are filling autumn weekends at the castle

Naked Castle (裸心堡) told the county paper it has more than ten weddings in October. Every weekend date is taken, so some couples have moved to weekdays. It has held 42 weddings so far this year. Mantian (缦田度假酒店), a resort guesthouse, has four in October, and an official of Moganshan town says it has hosted more than 80 weddings and wedding events in 2026.

What this means for a visitor: if you are booking an autumn weekend at the castle or a small guesthouse, ask whether a wedding is on that night. Couples usually book the rooms and the meals along with the ceremony, the Mantian manager told the paper.
