A 33 km trail running route from Yucun stays open after the race

A trail running route named after the ultrarunner Zhang Weiqiang opened at Yucun during the Skyrace weekend. Unlike a race course, it stays open to the public, though no map or track has been published.

A 33 kilometre trail running route now starts and finishes in Yucun (庾村), the town at the foot of Moganshan, and it is meant to stay open after the race crowds have gone. It opened on the afternoon of 23 October 2026, during the tenth anniversary weekend of the Kailas Moganshan Skyrace (凯乐石莫干山跑山赛). Deqing News (德清新闻网) reported the launch on 26 October.

The route carries the name of Zhang Weiqiang (张伟强), an ultrarunner who trains on the mountain. In Chinese it is the 张伟强33.0跑山线, the Zhang Weiqiang 33.0 trail running line. The paper puts its measured length at 33.2 kilometres, with close to 2,000 metres of climbing. Zhang built it from loops he ran over and over while preparing for Tor des Géants (巨人之旅), a 330 kilometre endurance race where he has done well two years running.

A race course is marked for one weekend and then taken down. This one, the paper says, is open to the public for the long term. It runs through bamboo forest, along old stone paths (古道) and woodland trails, and mixes farm tracks, earth paths and flights of stone steps. Ordinary trail runners are invited to take it in sections and build up to the whole thing.

The report names places along the way where runners can get basic supplies and help, including in an emergency: Mantian (缦田), Sanqiu (三秋), Moshangyin (莫上隐), Yunqiju (云起居), Daxiong Outdoor (大熊户外) and a Land Rover base (路虎基地). It doesn’t say what each one offers, or when.

That is where the detail stops. There is no map, no GPS track and no word on waymarking, and nothing about a fee or registration. This item rests on the one Deqing News report; the county government’s website, which rarely loads from outside China, has not been checked.

So a runner staying in or near Yucun has a named full day route from the door, but shouldn’t set out on it until a track is published. Our Yucun guide covers the town, and our hiking guide describes what the stone paths are like underfoot.

What this means for a visitor: If you run trails and are staying near Yucun, you now have a named full day route from the town, but wait for a published map or track before setting out, since the report gives none.
