From Saturday 7 November, trains built for the Hangzhou to Deqing line (杭德市域铁路) start carrying passengers on Hangzhou Metro Line 10. They don’t go to Deqing yet. Tide News (潮新闻) reported the change on 5 November, citing Hangzhou Metro (杭州地铁). The paper calls it a through running test (贯通测试). It’s the last stage before opening: the new line and Line 10’s two extensions are run as one railway with the part of Line 10 already open, to check that the systems work together. The test is due to last until early December.
During the test, the Deqing line’s four car trains share Line 10 with its usual six car trains in equal numbers. Passengers can still ride only the section already open, from Huanglong Sports Centre (黄龙体育中心) to Yisheng Road (逸盛路). Every station in Deqing, and every new station on Line 10’s extensions, stays closed. Tide News says plainly not to make the trip out to them.
In the city, the change is small. At weekday rush hours, trains on Line 10 come every 4 minutes 30 seconds instead of every 6. At other times and at weekends the gap stays at 7 minutes 30 seconds, and first and last trains are unchanged. A short train stops at a different part of the platform, so a passenger waiting for one moves to the stretch marked in blue on the floor. The platform screens and announcements say which kind is coming in.
The report gives no opening date. The reader who tipped off the paper had heard the end of December, and Hangzhou Net (杭州网) wrote in May that an opening was hoped for then. Tide News didn’t repeat it. Hangzhou Metro’s own website showed us only a browser warning, so this item rests on the Tide News report, and the operator’s channel hasn’t been checked. When the line opens, it will run through onto Line 10. A passenger will then ride from central Hangzhou to Deqing high speed station without changing trains.
Nothing changes for a trip this month. The way from Hangzhou is still the high speed train from Hangzhou East to Deqing, about a quarter of an hour, then the bus or a taxi up the hill. Our page on Deqing station covers that last stretch.
What this means for a visitor: Until an opening is announced, a visitor coming from Hangzhou still takes the high speed train from Hangzhou East to Deqing station; going out to the new stations on the metro gets you nowhere.
