The Hangzhou to Deqing line (杭德市域铁路) began trial running on 2 September 2026, Hangzhou Daily (杭州日报) reported that day in a piece carried by Deqing News (德清新闻网). Trains are running the full route without passengers while the signalling, power and rolling stock are tested. The stated target is to open to the public by the end of 2026.
The line runs 25.6 km from Renhe North in Yuhang, on the northern edge of Hangzhou, to Deqing high speed rail station, with nine stations. It is built to run through onto Hangzhou Metro Line 10, so a passenger boards in the city and gets off at Deqing station without changing trains or buying a ticket in advance: the fare is paid by tapping a card or a phone code, as on the metro. Hangzhou Release (杭州发布), the municipal government’s own account, put the journey from Huanglong in central Hangzhou to Deqing’s main urban area at about 40 minutes, and Hangzhou Daily gave the same figure from some Deqing stations. Trains are rated for 120 km/h.
Both reports are promotional in tone. The 40 minute figure is a projection, not a timetable, and neither piece gives an opening date more precise than the end of the year. This site has watched the line since it was announced. It is the largest change to access since Deqing station opened in 2013, and this is the first report of trains moving on it.
What it does not change
The line ends at Deqing station, which is where the trains from Shanghai already arrive. The last leg from the station to the transfer centre and up the mountain, by taxi, bus or a guesthouse pickup, is not part of this project, and that leg is the one most visitors find hardest. Getting here from Hangzhou will be rewritten when an opening date and a fare are published.
What this means for a visitor: Nothing changes for a trip this autumn. From the opening, a visitor in Hangzhou will reach Deqing station by metro, tap in and out, no ticket to book, and the last leg from the station to the mountain stays as it is.
